THE HABITICA ALTERNATIVE THAT SCORES ITSELF.

LEVELYSS VS HABITICA · UPDATED AUGUST 2026

Habitica deserves its reputation. It proved, years before anyone else, that a to-do list could feel like a game — pixel avatar, gear drops, boss fights with friends — and it's still the first name people hear when they go looking for a gamified to-do list.

But there's a moment every Habitica player knows: you create a task, and the difficulty picker looks back at you. Trivial, easy, medium, hard? You're the player and the dungeon master. Grade yourself generously and the XP stops meaning anything; grade honestly and you're doing paperwork before every quest.

Levelyss is built for the players who want the numbers earned, not self-assigned. You type the task; the System weighs it. That's the core difference — everything else follows from it.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Habitica — a social, pixel-art habit RPG where you set each task's difficulty yourself.
  • Levelyss — a minimalist task RPG where AI scores XP, attributes, and skills the moment you type.
  • Habitica is mature and multiplayer. Levelyss is a young, solo, invite-gated web alpha.
  • Both are free to start. Pick by how you want the game to feel.

What "AI does the scoring" actually means

In Levelyss you never see a difficulty picker. You type a task the way you'd say it, and the System fills in every field before you've reached for a second thought:

XP weighed by effort. A category. The attributes and skills the task actually trains — endurance and discipline, in this case. Every suggestion is labeled AI-generated, and nothing enters your log without your accept. The same engine runs the Quest Forge: give it a goal like "learn guitar" and it returns a quest line — steps, XP, links — ready to accept, reroll, or edit.

The point isn't convenience for its own sake. When you don't grade your own homework, the numbers keep their meaning — a level in Levelyss is a claim you can't quietly inflate.

Pick Habitica if…

  • Accountability with friends is your engine — parties and boss fights are the point.
  • You love the cosmetic loop: gear, pets, mounts, seasonal outfits.
  • You want a mature app that's been shipping for a decade, on every platform.

Pick Levelyss if…

  • You want XP you didn't grade yourself — scored, not self-assigned.
  • Your aesthetic is a quiet HUD, not a tavern.
  • You'd rather type a goal and have the quest line forged for you.
  • You're fine being early: web alpha, invite-gated, evolving fast.
